AL BATINAH COAST

One of the most widespread day trips from Muscat is involved a drive along the coast of Al Batinah in Oman. Al Batinah is an expansive coastal area running parallel to the magnificent Hajar Mountain range in north-eastern Oman. It is home to many beautiful wadis and villages, such as WadiMistal and Wakan Village, and attractions such as Nakhal Fort and the hot springs of Ain Al Thowara.
Starting early morning to visit the town of Barka, famous for its morning fish market. Continue the tour to Wakkan Village. Which is about 1500mtrs, and it's about 300 years old. Experience the beauty of agriculture. Later drive through the dates palms. Next, stop at the Nakhal spring and enjoy a walk through the village with its date palms and falaj system. In the springs, dip your feet into the water and have the fish nibble your toes clean. Take a tour of the Nakhl Fort, whose construction can be dated back to more than 1500 years ago.

 

WADI TIWI &  BIMMAH SINKHOLE

Wadi Tiwi is a wadi in Al Sharqiyah region, adjacent to the very popular Wadi Shab but unique in its way with numerous farms and plantations dotting the wadi, and a stunning pool deep inside towards Mibam village. It is a truly beautiful wadi with the lush plantations. Bimmah Sinkhole appears out of nowhere. Unlike a wadi, that slowly reveals itself. According to local legend, the cavernous hole was formed by a meteorite called Hawaiyat Najm, ‘The Falling Star’. From Muscat to the fishing town of Quriyat through the stark mountain terrain. Drive through this fishing village visiting the 400 years old Quriyat Fort before heading for the Fish souk where a variety of fish is traded for local consumption as well as export. Drive along the picturesque waterfront. There is a good chance of spotting Flamingos and Eagles at an inland stream. From here we proceed towards the coast and visit the spectacular Bimah sinkhole which is a limestone crater with the blue-green water at the bottom. We then start on an adventurous route cutting through the mountains. At the end of the drive, Wadi Tiwi awaits with its deep pools of water set among the date palms.

FASCINATING FORTS

Duration 8HRS 400 KM 

Nizwa, capital of the interior, is the birthplace of Islam in the sultanate of Oman. Nizwa boast of the famous Round tower fort built in the 17th century. Renowned for its Friday cattle market by locals. The souq witnesses cattle, mainly cows, oxen, sheep, goats and sometimes even camels, being bought and sold. Visit the traditional souk with intricately hand-carved “Khanjars” (daggers) & ornamental silver jewellery. The castle displays the highest achievements in Omani ceiling painting & beautifully executed woodcarving. En route to Muscat visit the pretty village of Birkat Al Mauz. Birkat al Mouz can be found between Nizwa and Izki at the crossing, about 2km from the base of the mountain at Jebel Akhdar (Green Mountains). Enjoy a walk through its oasis and dense date plantations. 

 

OMANI'S GRAND CANYON

Grand Canyon of Oman is an amazing must-visit experience. Full-Day Tour from Muscat. Enjoy a full-day tour from Muscat to Jabal Shams, or Mountain of the Sun 3009 m, which is the second-highest peak in the Arabic Gulf region. Our first stop is at Nizwa Souq famed for its Antiques & Silver Jewelry. A short photo stops at the Round Tower Fort before proceeding ahead. Our next stop takes us to Wadi Nakher located in the depth of our deepest canyon. Proceed to Misfah a pretty mountain village with stone dwellings still in existence. Near the summit, the terrain flattens out into a large plateau making an ideal place to camp and picnic. There are also a couple of well-established hikes here, the most famous of which is the Balcony Walk just below the canyon rim. Stop at the terrace farming village of Wadi Ghul. The straight-sided Wadi Ghul is known locally as the Grand Canyon of Arabia, as it fissures abruptly between the flat canyon rims, exposing vertical cliffs of 1000m and more.

Then, head back to Muscat for drop-off point where the tour ends. 

JABEL AKHDAR TRAIL

Depart from Muscat and proceed to visit the Nizwa Round tower & the Nizwa Souk. Drive to the pretty village of the Birkat Al Mauz. Enjoy A walk through the lush green date plantations. We proceed to wasi Al Madeen where there is a checkpost. From here a 36km stretch of winding road takes one to Jebel Akhdar (2000 meter above sea level ) the green jewel of the Al Hajar mountain ranges, a truly unique spot in the Arabian Peninsula. Enjoy the cool climate up in the mountains. Al Jebel AL Akhdar is famed for its fruit orchards typically aid out terrace style along the slopes of mountains, which are endowed with natural springs and aflaj. The villages of Saiq, Wadibani Habib ( the village of the old houses)& Al Ain dot the landscape of dramatic peaks, gorges and wadis. The roses of Jabal Al Akhdar fill the air with fragrance when in full bloom (March /April). Rosewater is distilled in the homes of the villagers. 
Then, head back to Muscat for drop-off point where the tour ends. 
 
 

WADI ARBAYEEN

This tour provides us with many interesting contrasts. We proceed towards the fishing town of Quriyat through the stark mountain terrain. WADI SHAB 

Duration 8HRS  420KM -BY 4WD

Inland for a while and then head for Quriyat, which lies on the east coast at the end of a sandy plain overlooked by the Eastern Hajar Mountains. Like other ports, it suffered under Portuguese Supremacy during the 16th century. An island with a watchtower just offshore can be reached on foot low tide. Along the beach is an inlet with dense mangrove forest - home to marine and birdlife, Near Dibab is huge sinkhole known as the Bimah Sinkhole, a spectacular limestone crater with blue-green water at the bottom. Along the coastline, passing Fins Beach, with many tiny coves tucked beneath the cliffs and stretches of white sandy beaches lapped by an incredible turquoise sea. Wadi Shab, which means (gorge between the cliffs).The wadi is entered via a small ferry and it has cool pools of water all year round. Further into the enchanting wadi is a deep pool ideal for swimming. The ravine is lush with trees, grasses and date palm, A single beach dotted with the fishing boat at the mouth of the wadi completes the picturesque view  
Return to Muscat. 

WAHIBA WILDERNESS

Duration 8HRS 550 KM -BY 4WD

Comprising of the governorates of North and South A’Sharqiyah, this part of Oman is widely considered the geographical jewel of the Sultanate. It is here that spectacular coastlines give way to the unique ecosystem that is Sharqiyah Sands, making this region a paradise for adventurers and explorers. The Sharqiyah Sands allows visitors to experience the desert first hand, with dunes reaching as far as the horizon and the area teeming with wildlife. Local Bedouins continue to breed livestock, including camels and Arabian horses.

 From Muscat via 4Wd drive through the Hajar mountains, the first stop is the enchanting WadiBani Khalid and drive the village with its endless dates plantations. In the Wadi itself, the water pools are cool, deep and stunning. From here we drive to the golden sands of Wahiba, indulge in some daring dune bashing and visit the bedouin family.

MAJESTIC MOUNTAINS

Our first stop is at the 300-year-old fort Bait Na'aman. It's a beautiful country horse, which has been restored and furnished. At this fort, it is seen how traditionally the imam and his family subsisted. the castle has reinstated all the time-honoured artefacts such as Khanjars, Artillery, Jewelry and the chinaware. Proceed to AL Awabi and take the turnoff to Wadi Bani Auf. This is a very unique drive through the sedimentary mountain. For those inclined, there is a wonderful canyon to explore on foot. The route through the mountains is dramatic. Bilad Sayt is one of Oman's most quaint village with an old-world appeal Explore this tranquil village on foot with its patchwork of terrace farming and traditional houses laid out against the rocky slopes. Enjoy a picnic lunch. After the visit to the village proceed to the snake gorge where one can enjoy a short walk (Weather Permitting).

 

Return back to Muscat.

The Wahiba Sands, or Ramlat Al Wahiba ( also called Sharqiya Sands, is a region of desert in Oman, The region is named for the Wahiba tribe. The area is defined by a boundary of 180 kilometres (112mi)north to south and 80 km (50mi)east to west, with an area of 12,500 square km (4,800 sq mi).
